Job Description:
Birck Engineering is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineer with experience in the process industries, such as Oil & Gas, Chemical, or related. The role requires a proactive and ambitious engineer with strong foundational engineering skills and the capacity to learn new skills and solve problems. The mechanical engineer will be responsible for performing engineering design calculations and preparing engineering design documentation for client projects which will be constructed from the engineering package. In addition, the role will require frequent collaboration with the other engineering and design disciplines (process, structural, electrical, instrumentation, and design) to ensure a high quality, comprehensive design is prepared. There will be opportunities to grow and learn beyond the traditional mechanical engineering role and responsibilities, including working across disciplines, performing project engineering tasks, and providing supplemental project management support.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Support the development of P&ID’s, working closely with the Process Department to ensure the mechanical requirements and items are properly depicted and specified on the drawings.
  2. Perform mechanical engineering design calculations to support piping system and equipment sizing, specifications, and selections. Work collaboratively with the Process Department to ensure the systems are designed properly for the intended function and duty.
  3. Understand, apply, and ensure compliance with industry specific code and standard requirements for design, installation, testing, and commissioning (ASME, API, NFPA, IBC, etc.).
  4. Develop detailed specifications and selections for piping systems and mechanical equipment, including inline components (PVF), rotating and fixed equipment (pumps, compressors, HX’s), and specialty items (flexible hoses, expansion joints).
  5. Ensure the constructability of the mechanical packages and perform stress analysis calculations on lines deemed to require further review and analysis utilizing hand calculations and/or computer software.
  6. Collaborate with the Design Department to ensure the 3D models for the facilities match the engineering design documents and selections. Resolve conflicts and issues. Collaborate with Structural, Electrical, and Instrumentation to ensure all portions of the model are properly designed and avoid conflicts. 
  7. Support safety reviews and peer checks to ensure high quality, functional, and constructable engineering designs and final documentation packages.
  8. Meet all company work safety, schedule, and attendance expectations and perform within the physical and environmental demands of the job.
ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Work with Clients in professional, collaborative, and inviting manner to ensure their requirements and needs are accurately captured and incorporated into the engineering and design package.
  2. Aid in the update and continuous improvement of discipline specific work instructions and procedures.
  3. Provide input on ways to improve engineering and design work processes and quality throughout the engineering and design work phases.
  4. Provide project engineering and management support on smaller projects, as required.
  5. The job will entail periodic site visits to new and operating facilities to gather information and data and/or validate the installation of the engineering and design package.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field 
  2. 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering
  3. Experience in a process related industry, such as oil & gas, power, chemicals, or related field.
  4. Strong organization, project management, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  5. Strong written and oral communication skills with people at all levels of the organization
  6. Effective computer skills, including MS Office suite
  7. Ability to work collaboratively with a team
  8. Able to develop creative solutions to difficult problems and learn new skills that may be required to solve such problems
DIFFERENTIATING QUALIFICATIONS 
  1. EIT or PE Licensure
  2. Piping Stress Analysis (CAESAR II or equivalent) expertise
  3. Experience with Navisworks
PAY RANGE 
$80,000-$110,000
